Rising to the Fly is partnering with many women-focused fly-fishing non-profits to help match our gear and garb to qualified candidates. However, we are always open to making donations to individuals, but we do ask for a donation of $25.00 to help us offset some of the costs we may incur (shipping, waders, boots, fly rods, etc.). Rising to the Fly is committed to supporting individuals with socioeconomic needs. If you have the financial resources to purchase equipment, we kindly request that you refrain from submitting an application.
Fill out the form below and explain how Rising to the Fly can help you! Please understand we do our very best to get you what you have requested but our inventory fluctuates based on donations and we may not always have what you need.
PLEASE NOTE: make sure to prioritize your requests and we'll do our best to fulfill your top requested items. If we don't currently have what you need, we will let you know and add you to our database and follow up with you as our inventory updates.
We will slow down in NOVEMBER & DECEMBER to spend time with our family and friends. We will still take applications but will be slow to mail out gear and garb. We appreciate your understanding.
We ship out once a month- usually around mid-month. If you have questions please reach out to us at info@risingtothefly.com.
We are currently only operating in the US and Canada but hope to one day expand across the globe.
As you think about what to ask for let's talk about what you really need to fish! You don't need waders/boots but you do need some basic equipment.
Absolutely Need:
-Rod/Reel
-Line/Leader/Tippet
-Flies and a fly box or container
-Backpack/fanny pack
-Net
-Scissors/nippers
Nice to Have:
-Waders
-Boots
-Technical clothing
Where to Buy:
We scour Facebook Marketplace for local deals. We also recommend looking for garage sales and keep in touch with your local fly shop for sales and/or bargain bins. Redington, Echo, LL Bean, Bass Pro Shop (White River brand) and Orvis all sell rod/reel combos at good prices for a basic set up to get you on the water.
Cost Saving Options:
-Fly box can be anything with a lid- use the puck the fly shop gives you when you purchase or any small empty container with a lid.
-A backpack or a fanny pack doesn't have to be a fly fishing brand. You can find cheap ones at second hand stores and garage sales.
-Scissors and nippers don't have to be from a fly fishing brand. You can use toenail clippers as nippers and you can find cheaper small scissors from sewing stores.
If you can't afford gear and clothing please fill out the application below and let us know what you need to get out on the water!
